I also believe that one of the main reasons there is a WW1 focus on this site is because within that Forum there are individual battalion sub-forums, therefore giving it great importance over the other, lesser forums.

1. Should this be maintained?
2. Should other forums have a similar feature?
3. Or, should the WW1 battalion sub-forums links be removed from the board so they are not so prominent over the other forums? The will still be available inside the WW1 forum.

They could also be grouped by type: Regulars, Territorials, Service etc. instead.

Please do keep your suggestions coming as this really does help with the changes that need to be made ;-)

As a solely WW1 poster myself, I don't believe this is the reason for the focus. There is more general interest in the Great War especially due to the centenary, but mainly due to the massive effect it had on the next 100 years.
You just have to look at the forums and websites out there to see the disparity with other conflicts.
A tidy up of the forum is not a bad idea, so long as it still appeals to the casual visitor looking for information

Broaden the scope of the forum, but you will need some specialist knowledge of the eras you are broadening into.
That could be the stumbling block.....

Any suggestion as to how this achieved?

I don't want to broaden the scope per se, more like abridging it instead but without sling the quality of information already posted. It was broadening the scope and by opening up too many forums to begin with that has now given cause to take these shake-up actions.

Hi,
While I understand Spike's view, ( I feel WW1 has attracted almost a tragic, romantic ethos these days) but never let's forget that it's not just the WW1 centenary this year, also 75th anniversary of WW2, 70th anniversary of Normandy. Also post WW2 conflicts.
Whatever war when a Border man took a bullet/shell, surely they are all equally important eh?

Me neither but it's not surprising as it was such a short-lived battalion lasting less than three weeks! Not sure if it requires its own sub-forum though so it might have to go.

Already gone. It's been on the forum since inception and nothing has ever been posted to it, so it's gone. Always easy to put back if ever anything 13th Battalion turn up in the future ;-)

I was making a few changes last night so you may notice a few things in different locations or not there at all.

Posts have been moved from 'The Western Front' and 'Theatres on Other Fronts' to other forums on the sites and those "empty" forums have been removed. Other forums have been moved to different boards and some have been renamed slightly.

'World war One Chat' and 'Miscellaneous' have been merged and 'Roll of Honour' and 'Cemeteries and Memorials' have their own board: 'Remembering the Fallen'.

I am also working on a theme change that is updated, crisper and cleaner than the current theme. This theme has several colour schemes of which you can change in your user control panel. They are live at the moment so you can check them out by going to 'Board Preferences' then going to 'My Board Style'. The one I am currently testing is 'Metro Teal'.

After I finish testing the new theme I will be making it the default theme but I will leave the old theme in place if anyone wan't to revert.

The new theme default colour will be one of the following: Metro Blue, Metro Teal, Metro Black and White. I would like some sort of feedback on which people prefer as the default colour scheme.

I will keep you updated as I go :-)

Sound good, but maybe should just be some recognition that a 13th battalion DID exist, even briefly, rather than just erase it from history? Paul
