War Diaries - A BIG Thank You!

Postby kerchi » Thu May 30, 2013 10:31 am

Hi all. Just wanted to say many thanks to Mike, Paul and Spike in providing (and transcribing) a collection of Border Regiment war diaries from the 2nd, 8th and 11th Battalions for the forum and wiki. Your help has been very much appreciated and the war diary project would never have gotten this far without your continued help and support :-)

Thanks Mike for providing the 8th's war diary in the first place and Paul for transcribing it. Also, Paul for patiently and fervently continuing to transcribe the 2nd's war diary and adding all those CWGC details, which takes an age to add to the wiki but it is definitely worth it! The 8th's war diary transcription is complete on the wiki.

Thanks to Spike for brilliantly transcribing the entire 11th's war diary in the same style found in the original document. That must have taken some time....I admire your patience also. I'd transcribed two thirds of this when John Fern had kindly passed on his copy of the 11th's war diary to me a few years ago but I never managed to complete it due to other projects. The majority of 1917 had been unfinished for quite some time but that sizable gap has now been closed and the 11th Battalion's war diary transcription is now also complete on the wiki.

For those of you who haven't visited the project page, you can check it out here.

Thanks again guys ;-)
In memory of John Bardgett (15309 L/Cpl.), 11th Border Regiment who died 1st July 1916.

I would also like to say a big thanks to Paul for all the work he has done in transcribing the diaries, they have been a great read.
And also to Spike for the devotion that he has to the Border Regiment is second to none.
